Common questions

What does a radiation oncologist do?

A radiation oncologist plans and supervises the use of radiation to treat cancer. That includes deciding whether radiotherapy is appropriate, mapping the treatment area on scans, setting the dose, and monitoring the patient through the course of treatment and afterwards.

Which radiotherapy techniques are available at Meridian?

Dr Amarnath’s practice covers IMRT, IGRT, SBRT, stereotactic radiation therapy and radiosurgery, tomotherapy, CyberKnife and high dose rate brachytherapy. Which technique suits a given case depends on the tumour site, its size and its proximity to healthy tissue.

What should I bring to a first consultation?

Bring your biopsy or histopathology report, all imaging (CT, MRI or PET-CT films and discs), any previous treatment summaries, and a current medication list. Having these to hand at the first visit usually avoids a repeat appointment.

Where can I see a radiation oncologist in Chennai at Meridian?

Meridian Cancer Institute is at Meridian Hospital, Kolathur, North Chennai, serving Perambur, Villivakkam, Madhavaram, Retteri and surrounding areas. Call 044 6666 9910 to book.
